Kenneth Kraemer Retirement Announcement

After 40 years of outstanding service to UC Irvine, Professor Kenneth Kraemer will be retiring this June. In addition to being Director of the Center for Research on Information Technology and Organizations (CRITO) and of the Personal Computing Industry Center (PCIC), he is a full Professor of Information Technology for Management at the Paul Merage School of Business of the University of California, Irvine.

Ken is the author of 16 books, including recently published titles such as Global E-Commerce: Impacts of National Environment and Policy and Asia’s Computer Challenge: Threat of Opportunity for the U.S. and the World. He has written more than 165 articles, many on the computer industry and the Asia –Pacific region, that have been published in journals such as Communications of the ACM, MIS Quarterly, Management Science, Information Systems Research, The Information Society, Public Administration Review, Telecommunications Policy, and Policy Analysis. His scholarship has gained him international recognition in the field of the management of information systems.

I first met Ken 38 years ago when I entered the doctoral program at what was then the Graduate School of Administration, and have been fortunate enough to interact and correspond with him periodically over the years. He is a real intellectual leader, helping huge numbers of people to understand the role of information and communications technologies in the world-- many of whom will never recognize their debt to him.

I wish him good luck, health and happiness in his retirement.
