"A desirable consistency is not a property of deliberative minds."

My friend Julianne pointed out this article by Art Markman in Psychology Today. It summarizes research that suggests that we can better predict our future preferences by quickly reporting our intuitive responses to questions than by trying to apply analysis to the issue. The author attributes the phenomenon to the fact that our brains bring more to bear on the intuitive response than our minds can mobilize for the analysis.
