WORLD PRESS FREEDOM DAY

May 3, 2003 was World Press Freedom Day. Koïchiro Matsuura, the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) marked the day with a message to the world. He said, "at least 274 journalists were killed in war zones between 1990 and 2002. And most recently, of course, death or injury was visited upon a number of journalists covering the war in Iraq."
