"Science and Governance: describing and typifying the scientific advice structure in the policy making process – a multi-national study"

Summary: "This report summarises the results of a project to identify and tipify the various structures through which scientific advice is incorporated into the policy process in the (EU) Member states, at EU level and in the US. The study encompassed the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Sweden. It also considered the case of the US, and the situation at EU level. The report of the project provides a general overview of the advisory systems in each of the countries studied and a more detailed study of the advisory processes involved in each of these countries for two issues in which scientific advice has formed a mayor input into policy considerations: the possible cloning of embryonic stem cells for use in research; and the health effects of electromagnetic fields."
