The past eight years have brought multiple charges that the White House has politicized science — from muzzling federal climate scientists to ignoring advice on clear air and endangered species.Comment: The White House has never admitted that it substituted politics for science during the Bush administration. McCain will be beholding to the same interests which oppose environmental regulation, the teaching of evolution, and aspects of reproductive biology research and technologies. I wish he had not lied in the past about his beliefs in order to buy votes, so that I could believe him now that he would abandon the Bush administration policies that so angered the scientific community. Both Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama say that if they are elected, things will be different. And although the two differ on how much money should be promised to basic research, they say they will restore integrity to federal science agencies.
