The Economist informs us that Amazon has unveiled a third model of its electronic book reader,
the Kindle DX, which
has a much larger screen than the standard Kindle and more storage capacity. Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s boss, announced partnerships with five universities to evaluate the academic use of the device.
Comment:
I am not sure that the Kindle DX is going to be the device that finally replaces the book in the university, but it seems to be at least a good step in the right direction. The $500 price tag seems high, but consider how much students pay for books in the course of a modern university education! JAD
