What is the significance of the "personal data" at the end? Does being single debar a candidate for office? Does having two children mean one of the candidates would not have time to tend to the international housekeeping at Place Fontenoy? And why stop there? How about Hosny wears glasses, so his political outlook is necessarily short-sighted? Or Bokova has grey hair but Hosny's is black?

I listed the personal data at the end because Director General designate Bokova did in her biography. Of course the interpretation is up to the reader. I will share mine.

I, like Farouk Hosny, am 71. I have retired because I recognize that my physical and mental abilities are not as good as they were even a decade ago.

I know I have grown as a person through my marriage and through raising my son, and I think that experience has relevance to UNESCO, especially in terms of its education and cultural programs.
