Evolution of Foreign Aid

The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has published its most recent report on development assistance. The two graphs above are taken from Annex B of that report.

The figures indicate that foreign direct investment has increased over time, but the funding levels are very variable.

The figures also show that while official development assistance amounts have been generally increasing, they have decreased as a portion of Gross National Income since 1960.

Given the economic crisis faced by the OECD members, I fear for the prospects of foreign investment and foreign aid in the next few years!
