William Luers and Thomas Pickering, both former senior U.S. diplomats, cite the UNESCO charter (“Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defenses of peace must be constructed.”) in an opinion piece in The Washington Post titled "Military action isn’t the only solution to Iran."
Have we forgotten what Iraq and the United States have been through since 2002? Were it not for that ill-begotten war, thousands of Americans (and Iraqis) might still be living. America would be a trillion dollars richer and still be the proud, respected and economically healthy nation the world had known.Perhaps UNESCO has had some effect in its nearly seven decades of action. Too bad that the Congress has seen fit to halt U.S. funding of that organization!
