I think the majority of the people of the United States wish all Arabs well and wish all Israelis well. On the other hand, wishing a people well does not require that one supports the government over that people in all that it does. As the Arab Spring has shown, many of the Arab people were governed by Gaddafis and Mubaraks that their own people did not support. Fortunately, the Obama administration withdrew its support from those rulers.
So too, the U.S. well wishing for the people of Israel, and indeed its historical support for the state of Israel, does not mean that the U.S. Government must support Netanyahu in all that he does nor all that he says. Obama has suggested that he personally is getting fed up with the Israeli Prime Minister.
I hope that the U.S. Congress recognizes that it will be the duty of the U.S. President to act in the overall U.S. interest when and if that interest runs contrary to the positions of the Prime Minister of Israel.
