The Mobile Phone revolution

Source: The Economist
A lot of Africa is still not wired for electricity. Radio and television took decades to diffuse through Africa. Computers and the Internet diffused more slowly through Africa than through other inhabited continents. Land line telephone connectivity was slow to push out of the major cities in Africa. Mobile phones diffused much more rapidly, but look at how fast mobile phone banking is penetrating African culture! This shows that an appropriate technology can be state of the art, high tech.
