The U.S. Spends Too Much on Health Services for What We Get

Source: The Economist
Not only does the United States have by far the highest rate of health care spending as a portion of GDP among OECD nations, it has one of the fastest rates of growth in that spending. Unfortunately, we do not have comparably high health status indicators. The others of course have socialized medicine which both allows control of the rate of increase in health care costs and rationing of services to assure that those who most need them will in fact receive them. There is also a stress of preventive care in socialized systems that saves future costs from major health problems and chronic conditions.
