There are lots of metaphors we apply to knowledge. We talk about "pools of knowledge", "bodies of knowledge", "knowledge trees", and "knowledge networks". (Fortunately no one has talked about "power points of knowledge.)
In Bahrain, a number of archipelagos of artificial islands are being created. It seems to me that these are a great metaphor for my knowledge. I am dredging up information to create islands of knowledge near the shore in a sea of my ignorance. None of the islands rises very high and it seems likely that many are eroding rather rapidly and will fade from memory.
