Conservatives and Progressives in Florida

Source: The Economist
I recently posted on the geography of conservative and progressive states in the United States (September 13 and September 14). I made the point that the more densely populated states appear to be more progressive, the less densely populated states conservative. It is the urban areas that are more progressive and the rural that are more conservative.

Florida is a swing state. The map above shows that the counties around Maimi, Palm Beach, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Gainesville, and Talahassee went for Obama in 2008, while the more rural counties went for McCain. Thus again we see urban progressives and rural conservatives.
