Jim Oates of Leesburg, Va., writes:So, if you want to judge people based on their race, or gender, or their age, or the car they drive, or whether they have a physical disability its OK with Marilyn. Great!
Marilyn: Is it possible to “instantly” dislike someone without knowing why?
Marilyn responds:
Sure! And that’s okay.
The only thing wrong with that is if you go through life judging people by such external signs you are going to miss out on a lot of great people and interesting experiences.
If you do so while you are deciding who to hire, or what grade to give a student you are probably breaking the law.
I suspect that we all have unconscious prejudices but they are probably best to be brought into the light and combated, not celebrated.
