101st birthday of the automobile assembly line


Henry Ford introduced the Model T in 1908 but continued to improve the production process, creating the Highland Park Ford Plant to automate the assembly of the cars on a single moving production line. The line went into operation on October 7, 1913 -- the birth of the automobile production line. The price of the Model T was reduced to $550, making an automobile of adequate quality affordable for a large market.
