UNESCO seems to be embarked on an interesting program of work focusing on planning to improve science, technology and innovation systems in developing nations.
A Symposium on Comparative Analysis of National Research Systems was held on 16-18 January 2008 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. The website for the conference has both methodological papers and reviews of STI systems in member states.
An Expert Workshop on Science and Technology, Innovation and Development was held at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research, University of Manchester, on 27-29 February 2008. The report of the workshop provides a brief, thoughtful discussion of the topic.
This week the UNESCO Office for Europe is holding a meeting of the South Eastern European Higher Education, Science and Innovation Policy Forum (1-3 July 2008, Budva, Montenegro). The meeting is intended to seek the adoption of a forward-looking approach of Higher Education, Science and Innovation governance with a view to contribute to the building of knowledge societies in South Eastern Europe.
Under the auspices of the Global Research Seminar, UNESCO will hold a meeting in Paris on 28 – 30 November 2008 to discuss new and ongoing research, to identify research gaps, and to suggest new research agendas on systems of higher education, research and knowledge. It is currently seeking papers and expressions of interest for the meeting.
