The term "terrorist sympathizer" has quite a different connotation than "love the sinner, hate the sin". Perhaps we should reconsider the term. Are we not really opposed to supporters of terrorist acts or terrorism?
It seems to me that we will be better off fighting terrorism if we understand the terrorists, and that we will better understand them if we can empathize with them. You are seen as "sympatico" if you share a mental connection or bond with a person.
I think that the phrase "war on terrorism" has led to some sloppy thinking. As many others have said, the way to prevent terrorist acts is not to use military force against nation states. The words we use affect the thoughts we come up with.
