Thinking back.

Kids who get into highly selective university undergraduate programs often do so after being the smartest kids in their high school graduating class. It comes as a shock to many of these bright kids that they are now about average in the freshman class at the new school. A lot of those kids have a very hard time.

I was lucky. I got into UCLA's Engineering School when the competition to do so was tough. Fortunately there was a kid in my high school graduating class that I knew was a lot smarter than I was. He went on to invent the computer hard drive.
